New life for an historic gem

Located in the Witherspoon Jackson Historic district, Booker T. Washington visited in 1916 when he came to speak at Princeton University. A hundred years later, the house had fallen into disrepair. The project entailed a complete gut interior renovation, the removal of a back addition, and the expansion of the house with a new 2 story addition. A new, free-standing 1 car garage backs up to Paul Robeson Place.

In keeping with the requirements of the Historic Preservation Commission, the existing cladding, windows, and architectural details were preserved rather than replaced to the extent possible.
